St. Joseph Church - Farley recently received a St. Katharine Drexel Grant from The Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque (CFAD) for its Family Night Out parish event. As part of the strategic plan for the parish’s faith formation program, the event offered dinner, free babysitting, a presentation and breakout sessions on “Raising Good kids - Catholic Addition.”
The sessions addressed helping families find resources, praying together and managing their relationships at each stage of development. “Parents of pre-teen and teenagers learned how to respond to their kids’ difficult questions and parents of younger children learned tips for future use,” said Geri Kalb, parish development and marketing assistant.
CFAD’s St. Katharine Drexel Grant helps Catholic organizations in the Archdiocese of Dubuque with new projects that provide a Work of Mercy needed in their area and/or new evangelization efforts to bring people closer to Christ and His Church. “The grant has played a pivotal role in making the Family Night Out event a success,” said Kalb. She added that the goal was to increase engagement between families and the faith formation program and among the community. “We wanted to invite them in deeper discussion,” Kalb said. “This will generate conversations around the supper table around faith life.”
