    • The Benefit of Simplicity: Charitable Legacy Plan

A Charitable Legacy Plan is a way to organize your charitable intentions in a simple manner for after your lifetime through future funds and/or current funds at CFAD.

      Charitable Legacy Plan FlowchartThe Gift
You decide which assets to leave to charity. The gift could be a through your will, via other assets or a combination. You name CFAD as the beneficiary of the gift(s) (see our sample bequest language).

      The Beneficiary
After your lifetime, CFAD receives the gift(s). Once at CFAD, the gift(s) go to the current fund(s) or "activate" the future fund(s) you designated in your Charitable Legacy Plan to fulfill your wishes.

      The Distribution
CFAD distributes your gift(s) according to your wishes. The fund(s) will make distributions to your chosen organizations per the terms of the agreement. This may be through an endowment or a donor advised fund.

There are many benefits to a Charitable Legacy Plan, with simplicity being the biggest for the following reasons.
      • Single Beneficiary: Instead of naming numerous charities in your estate plan, simply name CFAD as the beneficiary of your charitable gift.

      • Easy to Update: Unlike your estate documents, setting up your Charitable Legacy Plan with CFAD is easy to modify and doesn’t require an attorney. Simply contact CFAD to implement changes.

      • Contingencies: What happens if an organization you named no longer exists or the gift is smaller/larger than you originally anticipated? CFAD will help you plan for these contingencies.

      • Guardian of Your Wishes: CFAD follows the fund documentation you create with us, so you know your gifts will be used as you intend.

      • Smart and Joyful Giving: CFAD helps you explore how and what to give to achieve your goals.

How do you start your charitable legacy plan?

Couple Making a Plan1. Think about your goals:

      • What organizations would you like to support?

      • How much or what percentage would like to give them?

      • What type of fund you would like to do this through in the future?

      2. Utilize CFAD's resources. Our Giving, Will Planning and Charitable Gift Guides  and/or other resources can greatly help you. We are glad to meet with you on any questions you have to offer ideas.

      3. Consult with your professional advisors (attorney, CPA, financial advisor). CFAD provides resources but does not give advice in these areas.

      4. CFAD will help you create your Charitable Legacy Plan and work with you on any other documents needed to fulfill your plan.

There is no cost with us to utilize our planning resources or to set up a Charitable Legacy Plan with CFAD.
