La Salle Catholic School – Holy Cross recently received a St. Katharine Drexel Grant from The Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque (CFAD) for its program in association with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). The grant specifically supports the students of La Salle Catholic School, Holy Cross, Iowa.
La Salle Catholic School sought to enhance their religious education through CGS so that their students can hear, ponder and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Catholic faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy. Through the St. Katharine Drexel Grant, the school was able to procure and implement items to enhance their learning space.
CFAD’s St. Katharine Drexel Grant helps Catholic organizations in the Archdiocese of Dubuque with new projects that provide a Work of Mercy needed in their area and/or new evangelization efforts to bring people closer to Christ and His Church. “It is amazing to see the excitement of kids’ faces when they understand something about the faith and connect it between the classroom and church,” Brenda Lansing, principal of La Salle Catholic School, stated when asked about the program. Debbie Errthum, catechist of CGS, added, “It is inspiring to see the mystery of God revealed to the students. We have had students recognize the epiclesis, or the descent of the Holy Spirit, during the Mass and talk about it when they return to the atrium (learning space).”
