DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque (CFAD) recently changed its logo as the final piece of its brand update per its strategic plan.
Various thought went into the new image, which include:
Darker blue from the Archdiocese of Dubuque logo to show collaboration
Circle representing perpetuity, like CFAD endowments
Outer circle representing a ripple the foundation and its supporters create in its impact
Cross showing it’s Christian, name telling it’s Catholic
Acronym of CFAD making it distinct, not a “generic” mark, plus this is how many refer to it
“The board members wanted an updated, more distinct look and one with meaning they ascribed to it,” said board chair Maureen Gronstal.
The new logo follows other updates, including:
A slight name change (Catholic Foundation in the Archdiocese of Dubuque instead of Catholic Foundation for the Archdiocese of Dubuque)
Updated mission (sustain a vibrant Catholic faith in the Archdiocese of Dubuque through professional financial planning)
Updated vision (endow financial support for our Catholic community)
With the new logo comes a new website and updated materials.
As CFAD is separate from the Archdiocese of Dubuque and the related patron of St. Raphael, CFAD’s board of directors chose St. Katharine Drexel as its patron saint. St. Katharine was born and raised in Philadelphia in the late 1800s. She inherited wealth that she in turn used to benefit minorities in the U.S., primarily through establishing schools for them. CFAD board, committees and staff will regularly say a special prayer, asking for St. Katharine’s intercessions for the organization and those it serves.
“We wanted someone modern-day who embodied the characteristics of our mission,” said Gronstal. “St. Katharine is the patron saint of philanthropy among other areas and she gave of herself to help those in need and spread the faith — all of which resonates with those involved with CFAD.”
